GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN!
What can I really say about The Monroe? First and foremost it is located in the beautiful downtown area now referred to as the Creative Village. It is one of the monumental places to eat nestled in between the newly constructed condos and apartments arising in the area.
Originally, a couple of girlfriends and I decided to go because of the buzz it has been getting on social media but I shortly found that it has much more depth to it than meets the eye.
First - the history! It is named after the famous Dr. William Monroe Wells which was one of the first African American Physicians in Orlando. He was well known for his work in the community including assisting black people with health insurance sometimes for free. Check out the Well's Built Museum as well - www.wellsbuilt.org.
Second - the art! The building and interior itself is beautiful, from the bright lighting to the earthy decor in the interior but I found the exterior to be just as beautiful specifically because of the art. The building was surrounded by art from a local artist named Maureen Hudas which has art located around the Orlando area. Check her IG out at - maureenhudasart.
Finally but certainly not least....the Food was amazing! I had the Grilled 8oz Prime Flank Steak with Potatoes and the Messina Method cocktail (they said it was pretty and it was). My sister had what they are well known for, they're Fried Chicken Plate with greens and macaroni and cheese with the Bow and Arrow cocktail.
So while, I initially did not plan to go to The Monroe, it did not disappoint. The history, the art, and the vibes had me at.....WTF (Where's the fun?)
